Letter: Carstairs gas station owners making the community proud

Community members came to driver's aid in Carstairs
opinion

I was travelling from Canmore back to Ponoka (on Oct. 11) and miscalculated my gas requirements. I pulled off in Carstairs and went to the Shell gas station to fill up only to find my bank card and credit card were missing. In a nutshell I was hooped.

I went in to the station to see if they could possibly process a credit card payment over the phone but they could not. I was very emotional because I had no idea what to do.

The owners were so very kind to me. They offered to put $20 in my car enough to get me home. My faith in humanity was so hugely restored by such wonderful people. They did not even ask my name.

They also offered me food, coffee, water, whatever I needed. I did ask for their email address so I could send it back. They gave it to me but said not to panic.

Again, they did not know me, anything about me, only that I said I lived in Ponoka. I don’t know what I would have done without their incredible kindness.

Carstairs is so fortunate to have these owners at this station. I can’t thank them enough. And I will endeavour to pay it forward. Thanks for listening. I just had to tell someone about these amazing people.

Shonna Leighton,

Ponoka
