Letter: Confidence in provincial government lacking

"This abhorrent behaviour in my opinion disqualifies Mr. Cooper from continuing as Speaker of the House in Alberta"
opinion

Mr. Nathan Cooper's (Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills UCP MLA) email to a constituent concerning the Christmas flights by six UCP MLAs to Hawaii etc. as expressed in the recent issue of Alberta Views (June edition, page 4) may indeed undermine the provincial government's moral authority.

However, this silliness and indulgent behaviour by UCP members pales in comparison to Mr. Cooper's gross misconduct. Albertans have been given a clear example that shows his own lack of moral authority and respect for the rule of law in Alberta.

Mr. Nathan Cooper has earned the dubious distinction of being the first Speaker in Alberta's history to personally override the strict parliamentary rules regarding the Speaker's position of absolute non-partisanship and neutrality.

This abhorrent behaviour in my opinion disqualifies Mr. Cooper from continuing as Speaker of the House in Alberta.

Indeed, there are few grounds left to have confidence in this provincial government at all.

Olds
