Letter: Election date change for MP pension eligibility is wrong

Move the election date if you want but stop the theft of our money, says reader

Please feel free to clarify this for myself and any others who may have heard this if I am incorrect.

I've heard that the people we elected in the last federal election have decided to push the next election back by a week which will then make them eligible to receive their full pension even if they are not selected.

This means that we will be adding several hundreds of thousands of dollars to our annual costs every year for these people who would not have been eligible if the election date was not changed.

So this seems to mean that if a person serves four years in the house they get a full pension. Wow! Talk about a conflict of interest since they were the ones voting on this change.

How about letting us, the people that are paying for this travesty, vote. Here we are with many people who have worked for decades, paid taxes who are suffering under the burden that this and past governments have put upon us.

Move the election date if you want but stop the theft of our money.
