Letter: Forget fireworks, fund Olds garden waste disposal

Re: Letter: Dismayed with early closing of Olds branch dump site

The letter speaks accurately for many of us who are frustrated and angered by the Town of Olds' determination to deny us homeowners access to disposing of garden waste.

As the letter-writer points out, they eliminated the large community bins but substituted a dump site on the outskirts of town.

Now that was nixed before the deluge of autumn leaves really kicks in.

Cost and the availability of student employees were given to the letter writer as reasons.

Two years ago, in a letter to this newspaper, I warned of the consequences when the community bins disappear. Those proverbial chickens are coming home to roost.

Essentials first was the theme of my previous letter.

No one loves fireworks more than me but when it comes to essentials they don't rank.

Take the thousands of dollars that go up in spectacular smoke every year and boost the yard waste collection.
