Letter: Forming Alberta police force will be a mistake

Municipalities such as Didsbury have said no to a provincial police force
opinion

Open letter to Mr. Nathan Cooper, UCP MLA for Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills:

I’m writing to express my displeasure in the premier’s decision to get rid of the RCMP and establish an Alberta police force.

This is ridiculous. The RCMP have a long history with Alberta and have done a great job. Yes, they are stretched in manpower but wouldn’t it make more sense to have discussions with the head of the RCMP instead of throwing them out and starting a new force from scratch?

Municipalities such as Didsbury have said no to a provincial police force; polls have indicated that the people in Alberta don’t want a provincial police force - then why would you do just that? Spend all that money now and on-going to have something that no one wants.

Is it just that provincial coffers have so much surplus oil and gas money that the premier figures she needs to spend it?

Why not do something to help us with inflation and the economy or help with Alberta Health Services wait times.

I’m sure you’ll just throw this letter out and not bother to reply or just send me the policy line as per your puppet master. I used to be a conservative. I am not ever again voting for the UCP.

Alison Lewis,

Didsbury
