Re: Letter: Say one thing, but do another
The writer calls Kenney a hypocrite for asking Trudeau for tow trucks, then criticizing him, when he suspends some civil rights instead. He says Kenney is a hypocrite for believing in rule of law, when six of his MLAs took overseas vacations during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is something not under Kenney’s control. Then making sure that all six MLAs who took overseas vacations lost their cabinet or ministerial positions, something that was under his control.
He finds it hypocritical that Kenney slams the protesters at Coutts, but doesn't interfere with the police by telling them to arrest the people protesting Kenney’s rules. Do you remember the last cabinet minister to call the police, Madu lost his job over the possibility that he was interfering with the police.
If politicians were allowed to force the police to arrest people who disagree with them, we would be one step closer to Nazi Germany before the Holocaust started. The Emergencies Act gave Trudeau this power.
He asks if it is OK for the protesters to be funded by the same people that funded the storming of the White House. GoFundMe has testified before Parliament that 88 per cent of the protesters funds came from Canadians, and that none came from extremist groups. Somehow I doubt that 88 per cent of Trump’s funds came from Canadians.
Is it OK for the same people who funded the terrorist attack on the B.C. pipeline to fund other pipeline protesters?
He asks if it is OK for members of our government to hobnob with Nazis and the KKK. It clearly isn't, and if he has evidence, he should take it to the police.
Snopes (a fact-checking website) says that the only swastikas they found at the Freedom Convoy 2022 were used in comparing Canada under Trudeau to Nazi Germany. They were in essence saying it was bad to be a Nazi.
Personally, I believe that once protesters have had a few hours to make their point, if they break the law they should be treated like any other law breaker. But this hasn't happened since the 2010 G20 meeting in Ontario.
Canada has lost tens of billions of dollars due to pipeline protesters breaking the law and those protesters have been shown far more leniency than the Freedom Convoy 2022.
I don't support the convoy, but I support it's right to protest legally. But their vehicles should have been towed within hours if they blocked traffic, or broke noise bylaws, like they were in Regina.
I would like to point out that I am not a Kenney fan, he has made far too many mistakes, but this comment was too over the top to let slide.
