Letter: It's all about far-right politics and manipulation

Freedom is their war cry, but all the while they deny a large number of the rest of us our freedom, says letter writer

I watch the news sparingly to keep the bile in my stomach. Yes, it sickens me to see a minority of “freedumb” fighters turn this country into a circus of selfish whining.

American ideology has been steadily seeping into Canada and the close minded have lapped up the Trumpism that almost, and may yet, destroy that country.

This civil disobedience is being egged on by the Republicans and other fringe minorities who would rather have anarchy than law and order. You should be ashamed of yourselves, especially those who bring Confederate and Nazi flags to the capital as your banners.

Freedom is their war cry, but all the while they deny a large number of the rest of us our freedom.

How many families have been blocked from travelling to funerals or weddings or important medical procedures? How many people are waiting for much needed parts and supplies coming from our “free trade” neighbour? How many people are denied a lifesaving ambulance response by your foolish gridlock of their streets?

Businesses forced to close, lost wages and enormous costs incurred.

And let’s be clear; this is not about getting a shot, like the one you willingly take at your dentist, or wearing a mask, like the one your surgeon wears that you have no objection to, or producing another piece of ID, like many already in your wallet to give you rewards, discounts or access to services provided by a lawfully elected government.

This is about far-right politics and manipulation.

Protest is fine. You have your “freedumb” to yell your ignorance, but demonstrate from the sidewalks and ditches and let the rest of us have our freedom.
