Letter: Lack of fibre optic project communication

Reader expresses concerns about mess left behind on properties by contractor
opinion

I’ve finally had it with the Town of Sundre’s total lack of concern, communication and responsibility in regards to the Xplornet fibre optics project. It has moved in fits and starts for at least three months. Today, I see a new directional drilling company on our street.

Did you ever plan on keeping us residents and taxpayers apprised on how the project is going (terrible, in the opinion of some of us 4th Ave. SW residents) and what the planned completion date is (weeks go by with no work happening to unfinished areas)?

Furthermore, why are we expected to call Xplornet if we have our yards left in a mess by the contractor? It’s your property the messes are left on, but we are expected to maintain it. Try cutting the grass when there are gaping holes and gravel humps all over it.

Now, after two weeks of no activity, I see a new contractor on site.

Do not advise me to call Xplornet – it is your property and town staff should be looking out for it.

I guess we all got spoiled with Terry Leslie as mayor since he communicated. However, it is not only up to the mayor to do this since that’s a part-time job. It’s also the job of the town staff and it’s high time they started doing their jobs regarding the foregoing complaints.

I also have to question the value of the town website if it has no relevant and timely information.

Fred Gillies,

Sundre
