Letter: MLA has been good for district

Re: Letter: Totally unacceptable representation from area MLA

I’d like to respond to a letter to the editor claiming the local MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre has not handled the planned closure for the Winfield Health Care Centre correctly.

I know Jason Nixon and the strength he brings to advocating for each constituent in this massive riding. Not only has he been on top of the issue for Winfield since Day 1, but Jason is a fierce advocate for rural health care across our constituency.

In Sundre, Jason is passionate about supporting our local hospital and even brought Health Minister Adriana LaGrange to our fundraiser this past fall to hear about our community’s needs firsthand. I know Jason provides the same support to rural health care in each of the communities he represents.

I’ve looked into this issue myself, and found out that the Winfield Centre closure was a decision made by AHS, not local officials, and can’t be reversed by our local MLA.

Jason advocated for the health centre to stay open, and has worked with Health and AHS to make sure that residents of Winfield and the surrounding area will continue to receive the same level of services. That’s exactly what an MLA should do.

Our MLA has always been accessible to hear about issues in the community, especially when it comes to health care issues. I also know that Mr. Borzel (letter writer) and other community members have met with MLA Nixon to discuss this issue.

I invite anybody reading this to drive to a local community event throughout the riding. I bet you will find Jason shaking hands and talking to residents. His passion for his communities is next level and his track record for delivering key services throughout Central Alberta is unmatched.

Each day Jason is personally advocating to his colleagues in Edmonton, including the health minister, to keep vital health care services thriving throughout rural Alberta.

In my opinion our community is lucky to have someone like Jason representing us.
