In Alberta and in Ontario we see politicians trying to bring in America's way of training its police officers, meaning lowering standards for entering the police forces and for shorter training periods.
Plus, salaries and benefits vary from community to community and from province to province.
We even have politicians who want to undermine the role of the RCMP by establishing either provincial police forces to replace it, or by enticing municipal forces to establish their own police forces, like we see in the U.S.
These politicians don’t factor in the costs for establishing their own police forces, such as facilities, secretarial staffs, vehicles, uniforms, weapons, insurance costs, operational costs, etc. Such costs will be passed on the local taxpayers.
Consequently, we will see some local police forces with mediocre police officers because of poor quality training and staffing requirements compared to other communities, such as we see with public education in the U.S., where academic standards vary from community to community, from states to states, and from teachers to teachers. Bottom line: No standards.
