Letter: Olds residents object to zoning change

On Oct. 15 a public hearing will be held in Olds council chambers regarding a bylaw change that would enable a land owner to create commercial and residential development on property near 52nd Street and Highway 2A
opinion

I am writing this letter in regards to the proposed rezoning of the property at 4609 52nd St. from R2 to commercial highway.

This property is in a residential community. It in no way can be compared to the Stevens Jewellers building in Uptowne Olds.

That building is already in a commercial district. Many buildings in that district already have existing residential suites incorporated into them and have had them for years.

We, as property owners in a residential community, are directly affected by this application.

Needless to say, our property values will be directly affected. We would have no input as to what kind of business would occupy this property. Traffic would increase on our streets and back alleys.

I am sure anyone who uses the corner of Highway 2A and 54th Street (the Auction Mart road) already gets frustrated with the traffic congestion. It would only get worse.

Sheryle Mueller,

Olds
