It is obvious to anyone who has been paying even the slightest attention to local politics that there is dissension in the ranks among the Olds town council.
Mayor Muzychka and the contingent of councillors have pitted themselves against councillor Mitch Thomson and it appears they are going to exercise whatever muscle power they can muster to make sure they put Mr. Thomson in his place.
The latest escapade is to exclude Mr. Thomson from the committee formed to deal with the overview of O-Net operations. This to me appears a little shortsighted as it would seem Mr. Thomson might just have as much working knowledge as all of the other councillors and the mayor combined about high speed internet. Just a guess, but maybe?
There is no doubt there are strong personality conflicts at play here, but let me remind you Mr. Mayor and the councillors in your corner, all of you are elected officials, including Mr. Thomson.
To deliberately eliminate Mr. Thomson’s participation in council discussions and decisions over petty differences, real or imagined, is not acting in the best interests of the people who elected you. You are not kids on the playground anymore.
Act like the adults you are supposed to be and work together. Don’t presume you have the high ground and you yourselves are above reprimand. Bullies are no longer tolerated in our society. It is an election year and the voters will have a say in how well all of you have handled yourselves.
