Re: Letter: More knowledge might change thinking on Alberta Pension Plan
There are several “old sayings" that come to mind concerning that letter. One: “Don’t switch horses in the middle of a stream”. Two: “Don’t spit into the wind”. Three: “Put your money where your mouth is”.
Many Albertans have said no to the creation of a pension plan to replace CPP and OAS, but our premier keeps pushing her agenda.
CPP and OAS have become crucial elements for many of our seniors. Why should they switch now when our provincial government has shown a dubious record of managing our money. What ever happened to our vaunted Alberta Trust Fund? Is it on par with Alaska’s or with Norway’s trust funds? Where has all the money gone?
Do we trust a government that has a very poor record with its dealings with doctors, teachers and other public employees? With its spending on private businesses, like energy companies and private schools? With protecting the environment while negotiating with energy companies behind closed doors? Where is the transparency?
We are wasting our time if we think our premier and her small group of autocrats are going to listen to us. “The short term memories of ‘some” voters is what keeps our politicians in office” - a paraphrase from Will Rogers.
We might as well “spit into the wind”.
Lastly, I challenge the premier to place her Alberta Pension Plan on the ballot (referendum). Use plain language. “Do you favour a provincial pension plan to replace CPP and OAS? YES or NO. Put your money where your mouth is.
Then, we will see who is spreading “horse pucky”, eh?
