Re: Letter: Poor planet; how sad
I'm disappointed to see yet another letter regarding the removal of recycling bins in the Mountain View County region.
There was plenty of notice given over the past six months to a year, in this very paper, of the county's consideration of and request for input regarding the removal of these bins. So what were these particular letter writers doing in the meantime? Not reading the paper perhaps?
Recycling services are still available, just maybe not as close to home as you'd like. My household used to make use of Red Deer’s facilities when we didn't have curbside pick up. So maybe put in the effort if you want to be environmentally conscious.
The county and the area towns/villages have limited budgets so if this allows them to direct the funds to other much needed services, such as policing and road maintenance, then I’m all for it.
One other thing: if, as mentioned in the reasoning behind the bin removals, being able to recycle materials is not possible or exorbitantly expensive then it's not something to bring up with the county or towns/villages, which can do little about it, but rather the province or the country as a whole.
The infrastructure needed to properly transport and recycle all materials possible is on them as the cost of said infrastructure is far beyond municipal or county budgets.
