Letter: Removal of mementos was disrespectful

Reader had hoped to have been given the opportunity to collect items at Bowden Cemetery themselves
opinion

In June 2022, a handful of families were heartbroken by the removal of mementos from their loved ones' resting places at the Bowden Cemetery. The worst being we were not informed prior or even after, for that matter, to be given the opportunity to collect these items ourselves, and were not even aware the items were a problem for the committee. Thankfully there was only a handful of families that had to endure this devastation. This has now resulted in the resignation of the chairwoman of the committee, yet as of the writing of this letter, we haven't received an apology. We managed to recover a few items from the cemetery garbage ourselves and a few more from Mayor Robb Stewart (who was very sincere and helpful), after he went "dumpster diving." Many of these items have been collected for various sentimental reasons and placed over many years. These cannot ever be replaced. Our hopes in writing this letter to the editor is that an apology actually comes and the Bowden Cemetery Committee will be more respectful here on out. Sincerely, Al Radke and Carla (Radke) Scott,

Calgary
