It's too rich. Alberta's MAGA queen, Danielle Smith, is feeling "disrespected" by Prime Minister Mark Carney for some comments he made about Smith as a credible representative for Canada.
Chairman Smith and the UCP Politburo, together with their creepy "Black Hat Gang" cult followers, are trying to ensure that no opposition parties or individuals are ever again able to form the provincial government.
If this sounds remarkably similar to Donald Trump's U.S., this is no accident.
To hear Danielle Smith tell the story, Canada easily compares to a suburb of Gaza, or Sudan, or some other unfortunate strife-torn nation. Canadians, but particularly Albertans, are being subjected to relentless political oppression.
Clearly, the only thing to do is to break up the country.
But increasingly, smart Albertans are not buying this line. Alberta respondents to a recent CBC morning show expressed their embarrassment with Smith and her frequent forays to Donald Trump's far-right heartland.
This has been echoed in similar news stories in western Canada: that Danielle Smith is actively undermining Canadian democracy.
Smith and the UCP want to politicize Alberta politics and force a party system on city and town councils. Together with the ability to fire mayors and councillors who oppose their authoritarian agenda, the UCP would like to maintain permanent conservative control of Alberta.
Except for one opposition term, conservative governments have controlled Alberta for over 50 years. This is a track record that Vladimir Putin would envy.
Smith and the UCP say they love freedom but this is freedom only for themselves and their secretive, backroom supporters. What they really want is to control Albertans to the greatest extent possible - forever.
