Letter writers weigh in on council's discussion on how many flagpoles to have at Town of Olds administration office

Re: Letter: There should be even more flags at Town of Olds office

To further add to Bob Worsfold’s request in his letter in the Jan. 10 Albertan, I will be requesting four more flag poles to the two he's already suggested:

1.  A suffragette flag of green, white and violet to depict the continuing fight women have in this country to get back their sex-based rights and spaces free from males in female prisons, sports, bathrooms, change rooms and domestic abuse/rape shelters.

2.  The Women's Declaration International flag. The declaration reaffirms women and girls’ sex-based rights, and challenges the discrimination females experience from the replacement of the category of sex with that of ‘gender identity.'

3.  The Iranian flag. To show solidarity and support to the dozens of women who have been murdered, and 1,000s of women and men detained in horrific Iranian prisons, during ongoing protests. This uprising began on Sept. 16 after the death of a young Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, in the custody of the Morality Police - the police unit that enforces strict dress rules for women, including the compulsory headscarf.

4.  The Afghan flag. Since the Taliban has taken control of Afghanistan, there has been a continued crack down on women's rights. In 2021, almost all female government employees were immediately banned from going to work. In March, girls were banned from secondary school education. In May, an order was levied heavily restricting how women can dress in public. And in November, women were banned from public parks and gyms.
