Letter: Yes, foreign worker programs are needed

Farm operation employs both Canadian and foreign workers
opinion

Re: Letter: Are these programs foreign worker programs really necessary?

Yes, the Temporary Foreign Worker Program is necessary. As a farmer, we actively seek out local employees and are able to find suitable people in the summer months.

Over the past two decades we have employed foreign workers to meet our year-round needs and they have contributed to our growing operation.

We found them to be reliable, eager to learn, willing to work and looking for long-term residency.

We, in turn, have the responsibility to give them a fair wage,  employment benefits that a Canadian would receive, safe working conditions and long-term employment.

We employ both Canadian and foreign workers. Canada has a long history of employing workers from overseas because they want to work and live here, get higher wages, and have new experiences and opportunities for themselves and their family.
