Mementos should be allowed on gravestones

Shame on the Town of Olds for taking our loved ones' mementos off of their graves. It is very sad that my small children cannot put a teddy bear on their baby brother's grave.

There are some families that cannot afford a headstone right away and are now deprived of the right to put a solar light or memento out for their loved ones.

Does this also mean we cannot have Canadian flags on our veterans' gravesites for Remembrance Day?

If you really wanted to beautify our cemetery, you would have planted rose bushes, like our ancestors did at many other Alberta communities.

Many of us go to the cemetery often and also clean it up. We purposely go there after storms, which is the only time we notice the cemetery to be untidy.

Thank you to the employees who cut grass and maintain our loved ones' gravesites. None of us would intentionally put their safety at risk.

Do not treat our dead as only headstones to be sanitized, and not as markers of our loved ones to be cherished, as we will all be there one day.

My family and I have been going to the cemetery for many, many years and suddenly the rules have changed.

Maybe it is time for a change in the Town of Olds.
