Myron Thompson is seeking re-election as a councillor and can be reached at 403-638-3024.
I moved here in 1968 with my wife Dorothy, baby no. 1 Myron Jr., one month old, with baby no. 2 born in Sundre in 1973. Served Sundre school as teacher for five years, guidance counsellor for eight years and principal for 12 years. Was elected to town council in 1974 and as mayor in 1977. Retired from the school in 1991 and went into federal politics as member of parliament from 1993-2008. I retired and ran for town council in 2010 and am seeking to be re-elected in 2013. I have been active in many organizations over the years. Living in Sundre is great and will be my home for the rest of my life.
For many years I have been working with the provincial government, federal government and local government to get the proper work done on the Red Deer River, to create as low of risk reduction as possible to protect our town from flooding. Worked with local people to achieve this ISOS committee, river quality control committee and others. The job is not done. Hopefully continuing on council will make that more possible. Also would like to continue to satisfactory completion of many senior issues. Also hope to help create a stronger relationship with county, provincial and federal governments to accomplish both of the above.
The experience I have gained in 20 years of governing involvement, stronger and more successful projects can be completed. I have excellent connections with higher levels of government that can be beneficial in achieving many of the town goals.
Issues that are most vital to me in the election include:
Flood protection for future growth
Senior housing and care
Safety on the streets of our town, particularly highway 27
Industrial growth
Stronger relationships with other government levels, particularly Mountain View County
Your vote for me would be greatly appreciated.
