Each year on the first or second Saturday in May as the weather permits, Alberta Transportation sponsors the annual Highway Cleanup Program.

Non-profit organizations are tasked with 16-kilometre (10-mile) sections of highway to sweep. Our stretches are broken into one-mile sections with three to five volunteers per section.

We need approximately 40 volunteers in each location – Olds and Innisfail. This will entail walking a total of two miles along the highway – one mile up and one mile back – picking garbage along the way. Participants must be at least nine years of age.

Water, safety vests, cotton gloves and garbage bags will be provided. A lunch will be provided after the event to thank those who have helped.

Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions – hat, sunscreen, proper shoes, leather gloves, rain gear, etc. Consider layering clothing, with a backpack to adjust for changing temperatures and conditions.

A safety briefing will be done prior to volunteers beginning the day.

Innisfail participants, please be at the Innisfail Golf Course at 9 a.m. Olds participants, please be at the Ralph Klein Centre at 9 a.m.
