Not much engagement

Re: “Carbon tax? You mean the backdoor PST,” page 27, April 3 Gazette.

MLA Jason Nixon knows it’s easy, and politically productive, to use phrases such as “job-killing carbon tax” while harking back to the “Alberta Advantage.” Rather than dusting off Ralph Klein’s 25-year-old tool box, what about proposing a thoughtful, creative approach to present realities and upcoming challenges? That’s something the UCP appears unwilling, or unable, to do. Instead, we get nostalgia, wishful thinking, and MLA Jason Kenney’s dog-whistle statements such as “the climate’s been changing since the beginning of time.” I don’t see much engagement with where we are today, nor any persuasive road map to the future.
