Plea to a guitar thief

Hello thief. I too once stole steaks when there was no food and I wore slippers as I had no money for shoes. You see, hard times have visited me too.

Local resident Alan Prevost is bemoaning the theft of his Larrivee six-string acoustic guitar and hoping against hope that the thief who stole it will return it. He also warns Albertan readers to lock up their belongings because”theft can and will happen to you.”

Hello thief. I too once stole steaks when there was no food and I wore slippers as I had no money for shoes. You see, hard times have visited me too.

I hope and pray you desperately needed the hundred dollars you received for my $5,500 acoustic guitar and it was used for food or shelter. You are welcome to it.

However, if the funds you required were for smokes, drink or drugs, then know that last year I lost my mother and dog. I cried for each for three days and still miss them desperately...even more desperate than you.

This year so far I have lost an old friend...that guitar.

Just as I would keep looking for a loved, lost friend, I will always search for that guitar...and you. Always is a very long time.

Give it back if you can -- Larrivee six string, acoustic guitar, light top with dark sides and back.

Through song and merriment, this instrument has helped me leave many dark places and helped others do the same. To take it away from me may even bring some of those dark places back into my life.

Do the right thing if you can. The net is already cast. There is no escape and I am a very patient man.

Please keep our town safer from theft by -- with kindness and compassion -- redirecting those walking the town back to the sidewalk and off private property. The vast majority of these individuals are not thieves and that’s why you redirect them to the sidewalk. Private spaces are not open to the public for security reasons.

Please lock up tightly everything of value to you so there is no temptation given to anyone because theft can and will happen to you.

Alan Prevost,
