On Jan. 4, 2014, my family and I attended a Grizzlys hockey game here in Olds.
It was my grandson's wish as part of his seventh birthday.
He loves the Grizzlys.
During the first intermission, a group of young people, mostly males, came into the rink and sat right behind the visiting team's (Drumheller) bench.
Unfortunately, it was next to where we were seated.
What ensued was the most disgusting display of ignorance I have ever experienced.
From banging on the glass, to yelling insults directed at the coaches and players, to homophobic slurs, not to mention bad language.
No one made any effort to stop these actions and to make matters worse, there were people laughing at the antics.
There were many families with children at the game and I am certain this is not the type of behaviour parents or grandparents wanted their children to be exposed to.
Is going to a hockey game not supposed to be a fun experience?
My son tried to explain to his son and his six-year-old friend that this type of behaviour was not acceptable.
However, when it continued in the third period, we left.
The evening was spoiled.
If the Grizzlys want the residents of Olds to support the team by attending games, this type of behaviour must be stopped.
