Position on climate change is wrong

Re: Government defends carbon tax, Olds Albertan, Feb. 14.

I find it quite amusing that Mr. Wittmeier, and the government he represents, base what they are doing in regards to global warming on their opinion.

But I guess that is all they can do. They appear to know little to nothing about science, particularly the science of climate. All they know is their ideology.

If they knew something about science, the secretary to the minister and the government would just answer the six basic science questions I sent to their (lack of) Climate Leadership website.

Instead Mr. Wittmeier says sequestering carbon in plants and sulfur in fly ash is expensive. One does it willingly for free while the other is a byproduct of clean coal technology and is used as filler in concrete production. With that little of knowledge in biology and clean coal technology, how can anyone trust their leadership?

Good leadership would not shut down an excellent power-producing industry, but would require a coal-fired power plant that is not using the newest clean coal technology to upgrade within a reasonable time period.

As I have stated before, using newer clean coal technology, coal can be burned nearly as cleanly -- if not as cleanly -- as natural gas. I would like to ask Premier Notley, is it wise to consume vast quantities of natural gas, the molecule that we use to heat our homes in our cold winters, to make electricity?

In my opinion, Mr. Wittmeier compares his government's ideology and lack of science knowledge with other governments' lack of science knowledge and ideology.

I disagree with Mr. Wittmeier when he states the government's ideology has opened a single new market for any of Alberta's oil and gas industry that was not already available.

He goes further when he states that the world price of oil will rise a minimum of $3/barrel based on Notley's ideology. From what economist did he get that tidbit of information? None who will be willing to put their name to it, I can guarantee you that.

The private sector in Alberta shrinks month after month; the only sector that produces real value to the people of Alberta.

Meanwhile, Premier Notley's focus is on growing the public sector without growing the real wealth-producing private sector to pay for it. Hello everybody; that means provincial debt with no way to pay for it.

Here are the six basic science questions I asked the government of Alberta. They are just the simple ones and would lead any objective thinker to question the ideology of manmade global warming.

What molecule is required in the atmosphere for all plant life to grow and below 150 parts per million (ppm) all plant life dies?

How much CO2 in ppm is currently in the atmosphere?

What is the highest level CO2 is believed to have reached?

What is the most important greenhouse gas in the atmosphere? Hint: The earth is covered mostly in it.

If the temperature goes up does the atmosphere hold more or less of this vapour?

How much energy in the form of heat/temperature is required to do a phase change for water from a liquid to a vapour? Answer: 2,257 kilojoules per kilogram (kJ/kg) -- a lot.

CO2 is required for all plant life on our planet. The more of it the better our planet does (within reason).

People with an agenda, usually money, tell everyone CO2 is a pollutant when in reality it is life. Water vapour is the molecule which controls the temperature of our planet, not CO2.

The more CO2 in the atmosphere the better plants grow and in the volumes man is producing, the planet's temperature is not increasing.

If the temperature does rise, the water cycle controls the earth's temperature through the phase change, clouds and rain. This is the real inconvenient truth and real inconvenient science our current government fails to understand.

I believe that within my lifetime, the big joke in history will be just how gullible people are and how lacking they are in critical thinking skills.

If you are interested in spending a small amount of time to begin to understand the global warming deception, here are two speakers that will help you to think more objectively.
