Re: “Support of public consultations,” page 20, Feb. 5 Gazette.
As a longtime resident of the West Country, I feel the need to respond to Mr. Thatcher’s bizarre personal attacks on MLA Jason Nixon.
As a local resident, I have paid close attention to the government’s Bighorn consultation process, as it will have significant consequences for my community and my region.
I have yet to be given an acceptable reason for why this proposal is being rushed forward, ahead of a provincial election, outside of the normal North Saskatchewan Regional Planning process.
As for the hastily organized public information sessions, these carefully stage managed events did not give residents a chance to get detailed answers to important questions.
Folks around here recognize phoney consultation when they see it. This is just like Bill 6 and the carbon tax all over again.
From everything I have seen, the only government official at least trying to get real answers for people is MLA Jason Nixon.
Every step of the way he has done his job, raising the concerns of local people that the government refuses to address. At the same time he has faced an onslaught of personal attacks from the minister of environment and parks and her loyal supporters who are trying to paint Mr. Nixon as being against conservation.
Mr. Thatcher, if you have proof that Mr. Nixon is secretly working for real estate developers, natural resource industries, or bank and mortgage companies, let’s see it.
Otherwise, keep your conspiracy theories to yourself. When it comes to questioning Mr. Nixon’s integrity, you’re out of your depth.
