The world is not always as it appears on the surface, this is graphically illustrated by the tumultuous events taking place across the Arab countries.Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi has ruled by deception, having the temerity to call himself a socialist. This is absolutely and completely false. It has been said that ìthe devil cites scripture to his purpose.î However, the persuasive words of Gaddafi have a hollow ring to those without jobs, food, education, health care and political freedom. The Gaddafi family has taken the oil wealth of their country while the population struggle to make a living; in a desperate fight to hang onto power they have turned the guns against the people. In a way that is similar to the leadership of the old Soviet Union and present-day China: they seek to fool their citizenry and the rest of the world but life teaches. The question now being asked is why these dictatorial Arab regimes were being propped up to the tune of millions of dollars, pounds and euros. It has been common knowledge that the Gaddafi regime was and is corrupt; however, many countries have been happy to trade with Gaddafi despite his barbaric methods. The people of the Arab world are making great sacrifices in order to obtain freedom and their example is an inspiration to those who need to change their society for the better. These will not be the last revolutions to be seen in and beyond North Africa.Keith Norman WyattInnisfail
