Seeking submissions for Scenes of Sundre

A picture, as we have all heard, is worth a thousand words. Sometimes, there's simply no better way to capture the beauty of the world around us than to take a photograph.

A picture, as we have all heard, is worth a thousand words.

Sometimes, there's simply no better way to capture the beauty of the world around us than to take a photograph.

From the foothills and the mountains to the forests and the rivers as well as the multitude of species that call the Sundre region home, there truly is no lack of spectacularly stunning photo opportunities in the area.

In fact it would not be an exaggeration to call this place an outdoor photographer's paradise.

And with a variety of people who hail from all walks of life, there is bound to be as diverse a range of photographic interests as there is available subject matter.

We at the Round Up are interested in seeing how the residents of Sundre and the surrounding area perceive the place they call home. To that end, we will be introducing a new feature called Scenes of Sundre.

Sunrise or sunset, turbulent or pristine weather, the colours of the seasons from winter to autumn, wildlife in its natural habitat, breathtaking panoramas of the majestic Rocky Mountains, the river flowing — we want to know what people see as being among the most appealing aesthetic elements of the area.

While we cannot guarantee that every submission will run, we do hope to get enough submissions to feature at least a few photographs. This new feature is a work in progress and could potentially evolve moving forward, but for the time being the idea will be to attempt to run it on a monthly basis at first and go from there.

Regardless of the photographer's expertise or experience, anyone who enjoys capturing scenes in and around Sundre is encouraged to send us a few favourites. The photographer's credit will be included.

Those who are so inclined to submit photos are asked to send original files to [email protected]. Images that are reduced for email lose a lot of their definition and will not reproduce adequately in print. Alternatively, we can scan pictures at the office, located on 103, 2nd St. N.W., and promptly return them.

Please note photos that are out of focus, lack a clear subject, or are over or under exposed will not likely be considered. So don't hesitate to snap a bunch of photos the next time something catches your eye — in the digital age, you don't need to worry about running out of film and can instead focus on snapping several shots until you get the one you want.

We look forward to seeing the submissions that come in over the following weeks and months as well as being able to showcase them to the entire community.

So dust off your camera lens, charge your batteries and have fun!
