At St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School we prepare for Easter
through the Christian practice of Lent.
This year, Lent began on Feb. 14 (Ash Wednesday) and ends on March 29 (Holy Thursday).
Most people know Lent as a time when Christians give up something, like chips or chocolate.
However, Lent is much more than giving up something small.
Lent is a period of prayer, fasting and almsgiving (charity). Members of our school community are encouraged to experience increased prayer in their lives, fast from something that will bring them closer to God, and get involved in charitable works.
This Lenten season, St. Marguerite Bourgeoys starts each day with Lenten prayers in individual classrooms. As well, we participated in a World Day of prayer with the greater Christian community.
Also, students and staff are encouraged to fast from something that will help them grow closer to God.
Finally, our school community will be participating in a Wake-a-thon to raise money for a local cause.
Jesus gave up everything for us to be saved, and during the season of Lent we walk with Him and grow closer to Him.
We always remember His sacrifice for us.
