Gentlemen, it's time to get growing.
On May 16 you're encouraged to start a beard to support the local Motorcycle Ride For Dad group to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in men. Its symptoms are often silent; early detection is crucial.
Olds' Beards For Dad challenge is designed to raise awareness, funds, and whiskers.
It was local Ride For Dad chair Dean Harper's idea. He works hard for the cause year-round.
Men at Mountain View Publishing are signing up: Noel West, Paul Frey, Paul Everest, and me.
Uptowne Olds has a few participants too: Phil Stevens, Leon Durand and a man who has sported a beard for most of his life, Brian Thompson.
A well-respected man who holds a senior position at the Town of Olds is awaiting his wife's permission to get growing.
Beards For Dad will wrap up at the Summer Oldstice in Uptowne Olds, June 21.
Local women will judge the growth. Points will be awarded for best looking, longest and most original.
The bearded look, reminiscent of days gone by, will fit nicely with Olds College's centennial celebration from June 21 to 23.
Men who have sported a beard or goatee for at least three years can participate if they agree to shave on June 21.
Please snap a photo before you start growing. Email to [email protected], drop off at the office or I will come and take a shot.
Pledge forms are available at Rip's and Mountain View Publishing.
