Sundre’s rodeo is awesome

The 39th Sundre Pro Rodeo was even more awesome than ever. Starting with the forever-loved pancake breakfast, rain or shine. The Sundre rodeo grounds were beautifully manicured.

The 39th Sundre Pro Rodeo was even more awesome than ever.

Starting with the forever-loved pancake breakfast, rain or shine. The Sundre rodeo grounds were beautifully manicured. The infield and grandstands built by volunteers are as professional as the best. Lots of eateries and a beer garden on either side of the track. A relaxed atmosphere until the rodeo starts. First comes the hilarious mutton busters. Some stuck to the back of their furry critters as if wearing Velcro. Others tumbled off. The crowd roared with laughter — so cute, so funny! Then things get real Western as the cowboys mount their athletic opponents — horses and bulls that want to buck that cowboy off just as bad as that cowboy wants to stay on. Both athletes are in top condition and love their role in providing us, in the grandstand, with exciting entertainment full of thrills and spills. The clown, Dennis Halstead, provides the crowd with good old Western humour, getting our spirits up.

And we won't forget the cowgirls either, from six years of age and up, rounding the barrels at full speed on their well-honed partners both racing the clock. The ropes and wrestlers vying for first place using timing, precision and brawn to win against their opponent — the clock.

Finally, to have us leave with smiles on our faces, the kids’ wild pony race, where teams of three work together as two attempt to hold down the wild pony and one attempts to mount up and ride. Again the boys and girls do a fine job giving us some exciting fun. See y’all next year for the 40th anniversary.
