Re: “Choices about God,” page 22, Oct. 9 Gazette
Just a few comments related to Frank Dabbs' commentary.
The creationists (Creation Ministries) who believe in a young earth are not whackos from some sci-fi alternate universe but people who are supporting their biblical view of creation with science. How can this be? Two very different conclusions based on the same "facts"? Perhaps it could be likened to the analogy of studying the elephant. Those who look at the ears versus the trunk versus the tail all come up with some very different ideas about the elephant.
Ideas in science are constantly evolving. The idea of a flat earth was based in science. Baby formula was considered far superior to breast milk -- science.
The MRI almost fell by the wayside because it was based on a new theory of the cell that mainstream science did not accept. Our views on the science of pain are currently undergoing a massive shift.
These are just a few examples where science has changed/been reinterpreted. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to carefully listen to and consider these creationists' perspective.
To base all our truth on science is a shaky foundation indeed.
