Tax dollars not being spent wisely

As a redneck immigrant who came to Sundre 44 years ago, I see our administration failing the town by wasting our money and making poor decisions. Let’s talk about our community peace officer.

As a redneck immigrant who came to Sundre 44 years ago, I see our administration failing the town by wasting our money and making poor decisions.

Let’s talk about our community peace officer. Yes we do have one, but when is the last time you saw him?

Administration tells me he spends most of his time at the municipal office as he has so much paperwork to do, and can’t get much time out on the road.

Ask anyone who was raised around here about Art Smith. You saw him three or four times a week, sometimes during the day and other times in the evening. He was tough but fair and kept a tight lid on the kids. He was a bylaw officer, not an office worker.

Administration will say the government makes us do all this extra office work; but we have a solution — let’s hire another officer so he can be out and about. It only costs, according to the town's 2018 budget, $92,652 with a revenue of $13,433 for the first one. However, according to their draft budget, the town’s cost will be $232,989 in 2020 with revenue of $30,000. What a great idea -- up go our taxes again. Art would be rolling over in his grave.

The town will be upset about these comments but someone has to stop the runaway costs.
