Well, that was a party! Thank you all for your help and support with the MNP Canada Games Torch Relay event in Olds on Jan. 31.

Without the support from the clubs, schools, businesses, volunteers, the Canada Games people and MNP, none of this would have happened.

A total of 250 volunteer bags were handed out, over 800 hotdogs were served and we roughly estimated about 2,000 people attended events at the CLC, Sportsplex, Aquatic Centre and the Olds Gymnastics Club.

The day started at 5:30 a.m. at the CLC Fitness Centre and finished with a Broncos victory after two overtime periods and a shootout against the Red Deer College Queens around 9:30 p.m.

I would really like to thank Mayor Muzychka, town council and the Town of Olds staff for their help and support; I work with a great bunch of people here.

I was thinking about the memories that were made and it is so heartwarming. I overheard one little guy who came off the ice with Jocelyn Peterman say, “this is the best day of my life.” Yes, that brought a tear to my eye.

Thank you to everyone who came out to encourage the torchbearers and took part in the festivities. Sincerest appreciation for your contribution which helped make this a great day for our community.
