What being a firefighter means to me...

My name is Joah Erickson.

I joined the Sundre Fire Department about a year ago as a junior member. Throughout high school it always intrigued me to be a first responder. I enjoy helping others in any way I can, and serving my community wherever that might be.

When I joined the fire department and began participating in weekly training nights, I was hooked. Everyone took such pride in training, servicing gear, and responding to calls whenever they were able to do so, and I wanted to be a part of it.

When I got my pager this past summer, I was more than excited to begin responding to calls and help others in any way necessary, as well as to provide the best care possible.

Each call comes with its own set of challenges, but that's why I believe that it is important to attend training to ensure the safety of others, your crew as well as yourself, and to get the job done.

What being a firefighter means to me is that you put your life on the line to save others, not because you want to be a hero, but because it's your passion ó it's the lifestyle you chose because you love the job.

I am proud to be among the men and women who live to serve their community, and I am a proud member of the Sundre Fire Department.
