Montreal Alouettes grant veteran defensive lineman Sewell his release

MONTREAL — Almondo Sewell is hitting the free-agent market a little early. The Montreal Alouettes announced Thursday that they have granted the veteran defensive lineman's request to be released. CFL free agency begins at noon ET on Tuesday.

MONTREAL — Almondo Sewell is hitting the free-agent market a little early.

The Montreal Alouettes announced Thursday that they have granted the veteran defensive lineman's request to be released.

CFL free agency begins at noon ET on Tuesday.

Sewell, 37, had 14 tackles and a sack in 16 regular-season games last season and helped Montreal win the Grey Cup. 

The six-foot-four, 288-pound American spent three seasons with Montreal (2021-23) after nine campaigns with the Edmonton Elks (2011-19).

Sewell has appeared in 185 career regular-season games, registering 334 tackles, 69 sacks. He has played for two Grey Cup-winning teams (2015 with Edmonton) and six times has been named a CFL all-star.
