MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Police say one man is dead and another person is critically injured after a late-night shooting in a Mississauga, Ont., school parking lot.

Peel regional police say officers were called to a shooting in the parking lot of Settlers Green elementary public school around 11:10 p.m.

They say the man in his 40s died shortly after the shooting and the other victim, who police described as under the age of 20, was sent to hospital in critical condition.

Police say the two victims got into an altercation with an unknown number of suspects that escalated into a shooting.

Const. Nikhil Chakravarthy says the investigation is looking into why the victims and suspects were there, but he says, "all indications point to some sort of gathering."

Police did not release any suspect descriptions and say no weapon has been recovered.
