MONTREAL — A junior college in Quebec is investigating after members of the school's men's hockey squad allegedly engaged in "unacceptable" behaviour during a private event.
Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe, located in St-Hyacinthe, Que., about 65 kilometres southeast of Montreal, says the unspecified incident contravened rules put in place by the coach and the school.
College spokeswoman Annie Hulmann is declining to discuss the nature of the allegations, but she says they occurred at a private event in October held off campus and that only involved players on the hockey team.
The school says it met with all the players involved, including some who are minors.
It says some players will be suspended from upcoming games until its internal investigation is complete.
Hulmann says Quebec provincial police were alerted but did not find grounds for charges.
"As soon as we were informed of the situation, we contacted the police authorities, who took charge of the file," Hulmann wrote in an email Friday. "They concluded that there were no grounds to press charges."
In a statement, the college said Friday it insists at the beginning of each season on the importance of ethical and respectful behaviour.
The school said it "has been informed recently of a situation concerning its hockey team and of unacceptable actions from some players."
"The college reiterated to all players the obligation to behave according to the values of diversity, inclusion, benevolence, accountability and respect."
