The story of Olympia Liquor starts in 1993. When the liquor industry in Alberta was privatized, Sukh Boparai and family, along with a couple of other partners, established a liquor retail store. This partnership dissolved in 1997, which led Sukh and his family to establish their own liquor business in 1998 under the name of Olympia Liquor.
“The business has grown from one location in Calgary in 1998 to 21 locations throughout Alberta as of today,” say Sukh, CEO & President, and Rana, Vice President. “Our locations are spread out in the province in cities such as Calgary, Edmonton, St. Albert, Sylvan Lake, Grande Prairie, High River and Lethbridge.”
They continue, “Olympia Liquor offers the largest selection of all products across every category of liquor for customers. We also pride ourselves on catering to customers and their feedback by ordering specific products that customers would like to purchase in our stores. Our prices are extremely competitive, we practice excellent customer service, and we pride ourselves on being a family-owned company.”
Being attuned to the needs and wishes of their customers means a growing number of products. While this has led to spacing issues in some locations, Sukh and Rana enjoy being the place where customers can find the liquor and spirits they want – even the ones that could be otherwise difficult to find.
“The most rewarding thing for us is pleasing our loyal customers,” admit Sukh and Rana. “We do this through providing our customers with exceptional customer service, the best prices across the board, and the largest selection available. It is very rewarding when consumers give us their positive feedback and really show their appreciation.”
Customers love Olympia Liquor; the brand currently has more than 20 5-star reviews on Facebook with patrons praising the customer service, great selection, access to rare wines, low prices, helpful staff, and more.
Olympia Liquor is very community focused and enjoys supporting local causes such as Kids Cancer Care and organizations that discourage drivers from operating vehicles while under the influence.
Sukh and Rana were please to accept, on behalf of their teams across Alberta, the 2018 Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Service in the Retail Liquor Industry from the Alberta Liquor Store Association.
The future includes more locations for the ever-growing business. Sukh and Rana explain, “We are currently in the works of opening two new locations in Calgary. These locations are larger than most of our locations because we are planning to have them serve as our high-end selection stores. We will also be opening a store in downtown Calgary, which will be our flagship store in the city. We are further planning to expand throughout the rest of rural Alberta in the near future.”
To their clients, they say, “We appreciate your continued support and trust in our business to provide for all of your liquor needs. Please let us know what we can do to make your experience in Olympia Liquor a better one.”
