SUNDRE – The impending arrival of a fast food franchise represents an investment of about $1.1 million in the municipality.

Puneet Sharma, the franchise owner of the Dairy Queen in Didsbury, recently told the Albertan about his plans to build a new location in Sundre immediately north of the Highway 27-Main Avenue corridor across the road from the grocery store.

In response to a follow-up inquiry submitted by email, Betty Ann Fountain, the municipality’s senior developer officer, said, “We can confirm that a Dairy Queen is to be constructed at 556 Main Avenue West.”

Sharma, as well as Lethbridge-based general contractor Silver Ridge Construction, were issued a development permit this past June, said Fountain, adding the building permit was subsequently issued in August representing a total construction value of $1.1 million.

Once finished, she added the Dairy Queen in Sundre will closely resemble the architectural design of the location in Didsbury and will also include a drive-thru service.
