SUNDRE - A 28-year-old man charged following the death of a teenage Sundre McDonald's restaurant worker in 2022 will be going to trial starting in February 2024, court officials said.

Solaimane Elbettah faces a charge of first degree murder in the death of Josh Burns, 19.

Burns was found dead in the restaurant early on July 4, 2022. Elbettah, who also worked at the restaurant, was charged the following day.

Elbettah’s preliminary hearing was held in March when he was ordered to stand trial.

Justice Alice Wooley has now set Elbettah’s trial date in Calgary King’s Bench for February 26 to March 8.

The trial will be by judge alone, with prosecutors Alyx Nanji and Vince Pingitore representing the Crown.

Elbettah remains in custody, where has been since his arrest.
