SUNDRE – The 4-H program is well known for molding youth into excellent communicators.
For 4-H members past and present, February is synonymous with communication competitions.
On Feb. 18, the Mountainview North area 4-H communications competition was held at the Bergen Church. Five clubs in our area were represented: Bergen Multi, Olds, Reed Ranch, Eagle Hill Multi and the hosting club, Sundre Multi.
Thirteen presentations were delivered in the morning with Rachel and Nolan Bijl from Bergen placing first in seniors, Liam McElhinney from Bergen in second and Cassie Kidd and Brooklyn McLean, from Sundre, in the alternate position.
For intermediate, Raelynn Sande from Eagle Hill took first followed by Corbin Kidd with the Sundre club in second and Kayden Strabel from Bergen made alternate.
In juniors, Sabella Black and Brooklyn Kuntz, from Eagle Hill, placed first and second with Jaxon Coombs from Bergen as alternate.
In the afternoon, 19 members gave their prepared speeches.
In the senior category, Carissa Richardson took first, Ashlynn Jones second – both are Bergen members. Maiya Rosenke with Eagle Hill was the Alternate.
In intermediate, Cadence Witcher from Olds placed first, Sadie Winters second and Georgia Winters alternate, both girls being from the Sundre club.
In the junior category, Logan Finnigan, a Bergen member placed first, with Lexi Sande from Eagle Hill in second and Adrienne Stanley-Jones as alternate.
The Airdrie Pro Rodeo Royalty officiated the event, with queen Kelcey Moore and princess Hannah Braun doing a phenomenal job at entertaining the audience as well as adding warmth and hilarity to the day.
Those members who placed first or second in each category will advance to the Mountainview district level being held on March 4 at Olds College. The public is welcome to come and watch. Members advancing from district will compete at the Calgary Region 4-H communication competition March 18th in Strathmore.
