Aquaplex officials have been given a bit of a reprieve from the short-term cash flow problems currently plaguing the facility.
Council approved advancing $80,000 in recreational grant money to the Sundre Aquatic Society last Monday.
Concerned society officials had requested council advance Mountain View County's portion of the annual recreation grant allotment early and that utility bills be waived until August so it could bridge a current funding shortfall, the amount of which has not been disclosed.
Administration warned that processing these requests could set a precedent for others.
Council declined the utility payment deferral but agreed to front $80,000 the day before the issue was to be discussed during deliberations on the town's 2011 budget.
Typically recreation funding is allocated in July once taxes have been collected, according to administration. The Town of Sundre's portion of recreation funding comes from tax money. The town does though receive Mountain View County's portion of recreation funding on a quarterly basis.
The amount of recreation grant funding to be allocated to the Aquaplex for 2011 had not been determined prior to Monday's council meeting as the town's budget for the year has not been approved yet.
In order to be assured that they could get through the short-term cash flow situation, aquatic society officials also requested that town utility payments for March to June be deferred until August for payment and that the deferral not attract any penalties.
