Local artist Dax Stringer took a blank, lifeless wall at the back of the Sundre Municipal Library and transformed it into a colourful canvas for creativity.
Library manager Karen Tubb had previously approached the Friends of the Library with an idea to add some zest to the building by making arrangements to have a mural painted, and a subsequent $500 contest seeking talent from a pool of local artists yielded Stringer as the finalist, with his work officially unveiled this Saturday.
The Friends gladly got behind the idea and decided to name the award after Barb Bell to pay tribute to a member who recently passed away.
“Barb Bell made significant contributions to the library first as a member of the board then on the Friends of the Library,” said board and Friend chair Anton Walker.
“Beyond the library, Barb made significant contributions to the cultural life of the community through her painting and pottery work. She was a fine artist and her paintings were always on display at the Sundre art show.”
