The popular Bergen Rocks International Sculpture Symposium is moving to Red Deer College in 2011 - but will be back in Bergen in 2012, founder Morton Burke said Friday.
The symposium will be called Bergen Rocks RDC and will see eight sculptures created on the college grounds. Five of those structures will then be returned to Burke's property to join the sculptures from the previous three years in the Bergen Sculpture Park.
The remaining three sculptures created in 2011 will be permanently exhibited in Red Deer.
“Starting Bergen Rocks at my home, and now growing it to its new venue at RDC is exciting and will help share the art of sculpture with more people,” said Burke.
“This is an exciting development for Bergen Rocks. I hope it will stimulate an annual event at RDC. I am planning to have Bergen Rocks return to Bergen in 2012.”
Red Deer Mayor Morris Flewwelling said: “It's exciting to have an event of this caliber here, showcasing talented artists from around the world.”
The artists at the 2011 symposium will be Alessio Ranaldi (Italy), Amgalan Tsevegmid (Mongolia), Kim Bong Soo (Korea), Min Kyoung Ok (Korea), Li Chao (China), Jiang Chu (China), Ebru Akinci (Turkey) and Jean Paul Chablais (France).
