An Airdrie man was recently apprehended and charged by the Sundre RCMP following a report of an individual allegedly siphoning gas from a vehicle.

On Saturday, March 9, the local detachment received a complaint that a male was siphoning the gas on a private property in Clearwater County.

Upon arriving at the scene, police were informed the suspect had fled on foot. The vehicle he had been driving was located nearby and determined to have been stolen, reads a press release.

Police Dog Services based in Red Deer were dispatched and deployed to lend a hand with the search for the male suspect. Officers from Rocky Mountain House as well as Sundre contained the area while the suspect was tracked through heavy snow for nearly two hours by police canine units, the release states.

“The suspect was located and arrested inside a gas well site which he had broken into.”

Brent William Madill, 40, of Airdrie, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000, two counts of mischief less than $5,000, break and enter, theft less than $5,000, as well as causing a disturbance.

The accused was scheduled for his first appearance in Calgary court on Wednesday, March 13.
