The Sundre AquaPlex is currently having short-term cash flow shortfall, although the shortfall isn't expected to have an impact on the facility's operations, Sundre and District Aquatic Society officials told town council.
Society board member Jim McAllister appeared before council as a delegation last week, outlining the facility's current financial status and discussing plans.
“We are here to discuss what is essentially a short term cash flow issue,” said McAllister. “In the next few months we are going to be looking for ways of increasing our usership and efficiency. We want the town to be aware of the financial situation of the pool, which says for the next few months we are operating on a shoestring.”
Asked if the cash flow situation could lead to the closing the AquaPlex, McAllister said, “Every effort is being made to make sure that isn't going to happen and we really don't think it's a possibility. The reason we are starting right now is to address some of our problems so that eventuality isn't going to happen.”
Both the Town of Sundre and Mountain View County contribute money to the AquaPlex.
According to the AquaPlex's 2011 cash flow projections, the facility's income over the next two months will be about $16,000 per month.
“One of the options we have for dealing with our short term cash flow situation is to have the town's contribution brought forward into the month of May, where it is traditionally in July,” he said.
The AquaPlex will soon be getting a new pool manager, he said.
“Our programs are always improving and we are trying to listen to the community to find out how these programs can be updated and be more effective,” he said. “The society is very optimistic about getting through this cash flow issue and come out better.”
