Chamber seeks additional community support

Connie Anderson, president of the Sundre and District Chamber of Commerce, said the organization is seeking to grow its membership, and invites anyone to attend the upcoming annual general meeting.

A well-supported chamber of commerce comprised of local business owners as well as individual residents makes for a stronger community, said the Sundre and District Chamber of Commerce president.

“We can have farmers join,” said Connie Anderson, extending an invitation for everyone in the surrounding area to consider getting involved.

The organization currently has a little more than 100 members, who pay a minimum $25 fee, which incrementally increases the more employees a business has, he said.

“It’s a good way to get insurance at a reasonable rate.”

The chamber’s board has recently been working to join a new insurance program through the Canadian Chamber of Commerce with packages that include protection for accidents and disabilities for members, he said.

As for upcoming plans and projects, Anderson said the chamber’s primary focus at this point is to grow membership.

“I’m not sure what’s going to happen in the spring,” he said.

The chamber’s annual general meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 29 at the Sundre Royal Canadian Legion Branch #223 starting at 7 p.m. and going until about 9 p.m.

“We’re just trying to get people interested in coming out,” said Anderson.

The chamber is seeking a new secretary as well as two or three directors, he said.

“But we’ll take as many as we can get.”

Anyone interested in learning more or getting involved can contact the Visitor Information Centre at 403-638-3245 and leave a message or reach Anderson by calling 403-638-3923.
