SUNDRE — The business community is for the second year in a row banding together to put on an informal, unofficial holiday shop local event.
Traditionally hosted by the Sundre & District Chamber of Commerce, the annual Sundown in Sundre is set for Dec. 4.
Last year, local businesses spearheaded the effort to put on what was at the time dubbed Sundre Snow Fest.
Due to all of the provincial government’s health regulations to mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19, the chamber decided against getting involved this year.
“This year, the chamber is not hosting an official Sundown in Sundre event,” Monica St. Dennis, chamber president, said during a recent phone interview.
“From a chamber perspective, the board really felt that we weren’t in a position to be hosting an official event this year, just due to the unknown. Because we definitely want to be adhering to the provincial guidelines as much as we can,” St. Dennis told The Albertan.
“(But) a lot of our businesses really benefit from that night — and so I did urge them, if they felt there was a night that they would like to stay open later and offer their discounts, that they let us know, and we could also try to" help them promote the plans they come up with “just to support them through this kind of time,” she said.
