SUNDRE – The long-running monthly Cooking for Kindness initiative continues to provide an affordable meal at the Royal Canadian Legion in Sundre with an extra special meal planned this week.
Generally held on the third Wednesday of the month at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #223 in Sundre with some exceptions like a summer break, the program is made possible courtesy of contributions from local restaurants that donate all of the food as well as service organizations whose members load up the plates, refill coffee or tea and then tidy up.
And recognizing there are people who may not have somewhere to go on Christmas Day, a luncheon available at no cost is planned at the legion on Dec. 25 from noon to 3 p.m. in lieu of the regular Cooking for Kindness lunch that will resume in 2025.
Lourelle Vooys, a volunteer community organizer who for years has coordinated the effort by lining up arrangements with restaurants and service groups, expressed gratitude for everyone who pitches in to ensure the program endures and she also praised the spirit of partnership that makes it all possible.
Those who might be interested in enjoying the mouth-watering feast but are unable to physically attend due to mobility issues are invited to contact Vooys at 403-638-3378 to line up arrangements for no-charge meal deliveries that are also made available by donation.
